Tonight, Tunisian President Kais Saied announced the freezing of parliament and the dismissal of Prime Minister Hicham Al-Mashishi from his post, against the background of the widespread protests taking place in many cities in the country.

Said decided, according to Tunisian media, during an emergency meeting of the military and security leaders, to freeze the work of Parliament and lift the immunity of all deputies, considering that this decision should have been taken months ago.

Saeed also announced his assumption of the executive authority with the help of a new prime minister appointed by him.

The Tunisian president’s decisions come against the backdrop of the violent protests that took place in many cities, the most recent of which was the mass demonstrations that took place in several regions earlier today against the practices of the Brotherhood’s “Ennahda” movement.

Mass demonstrations took place in the cities of El Kef, Kairouan, Gafsa, Sousse, Bizerte and Sfax since this morning to demand the dissolution of the movement, while demonstrators attacked its headquarters, blaming it for the crisis economic conditions and the failure to confront the outbreak of the Corona epidemic.

These demonstrations coincide with the 64th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Tunisia at a time when the country is in a state of discontent and rejection of the policies pursued by the “Ennahda” movement in the face of economic, health and humanitarian crises.
