The farmer was probably lucky in his misfortune.
Schwaig - A 53-year-old farmer from the western district of Erding was probably lucky.
The Erding police station reports that the man was busy working on a mowed meadow in the Schwaig area with his tractor and hay tedder on Friday afternoon at around 12.30 p.m. when the tractor suddenly began to smoke heavily.
"With presence of mind, the man steered his team into a field that had already been harvested and got to safety," the police wrote.
The machines caught fire and had to be extinguished by the alarmed fire brigade.
No people were injured in the fire, but the machines were totaled for at least 30,000 euros.
According to the press report, a technical defect must be assumed as the cause of the fire.
