Tunisian President Kais Saied announced Sunday evening July 25 that he was suspending the work of Parliament, and dismissing the head of government Hichem Mechichi from office, after a day of demonstrations against Tunisian leaders.

Kais Saied announced these measures under article 80 of the Constitution, following an emergency meeting at the Palace of Carthage, as Tunisia faces a peak of the coronavirus epidemic, and a deep political crisis that has paralyzed the country for months.
