Last year, the Ottenhofen fire brigade "drove" 35 missions with its 51 active members, plus 18 first responders.
The firefighters have a total of 538 working hours
Ottenhofen - Commander Hermann Brandlmaier listed these numbers in his report at the annual general meeting held on Friday in the sports center.
He noted that these were about as many working hours as in the previous year - and that despite Corona.
However, the pandemic restricted the practice operations to such an extent that there was a slump in the total number of hours worked for the general public.
The largest operation was a major fire in the middle of Ottenhofen, which, however, together with the surrounding fire brigades, could be contained very quickly.
Above all, the protection of the neighboring buildings was successful.
Here the commander thanked all the neighboring brigades for their good cooperation.
A lightning strike had set a stable on fire, which meant the second major fire.
Brandlmaier described this mission as being easier to process because the serious issue of “protecting neighboring buildings” could be omitted.
No animals were harmed either.
Storms had knocked trees over and onto a power line on Meillerweg - result: power failure.
A power line was also affected in Grund.
Ottenhofen fire brigade: Two young comrades switch to the active team
The commander could of course not ignore the pandemic: "All items used had to be disinfected." Not all hours were actually written down, he noted.
Mayor Nicole Schley made one remark very important in her greeting, especially with a view to Corona: "Nobody was infected."
The town hall chief recalled with horror the operation where a man without a mask had come towards the fire brigade and tried to calm down: "Only mom has Corona!"
Schley called the fact that the staff level could be maintained because two young comrades from the youth fire brigade switched to the active team "madness". Recruitment for the next generation had to cease because of “the general situation”, but should now be revived, according to youth leader Michael Weber. There are currently nine young people on the lists, and they would be happy to see more comrades who, for example, want to learn digital radio with them, practice first aid, learn about vehicles and equipment, but also want to go on excursions.
However, the youth leader also had something to say to the mayor's address: Some learning material still has to be printed out, but due to the lack of a printer, that is a real issue: "I print everything out privately." According to the youth leader, the tool shed is a bit weak.
The town hall chief regretted that, due to existing framework agreements, no quick solution regarding the bandwidth could be reached.
As for the printer, however, she promised: "We'll find a solution."
