The devastating force of a thunderstorm super cell hit the northern district.

Above all in Uffing and Spatzenhausen, the elemental force of heavy rain, storms and hail left devastation.

A man lost his life on Sunday, Uffing lost its landmark.

Mayor Andreas Weiß speaks of "war-like conditions".

Uffing / Spatzenhausen

- Trees that were downed and uprooted, cornfields torn apart. Roof tiles lie in meadows, a Dixi toilet near Spatzenhausen was catapulted 150 meters into a field, a hurricane-like storm literally pushed in huge barn doors and cut a path in a piece of forest between Spatzenhausen and Obersöchering: a thunderstorm super cell is on late Sunday afternoon with enormous destructive power specially pulled over Uffing and Spatzenhausen, in order to then develop its full force in the Weilheim-Schongau district. What remained was damage - and above all: a fatality from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. The 57-year-old experienced forester was visiting a hunt in a forest near Eglfing when the storm surprised him. According to the assessment of the police, he was probably in the pulpit of an overturning stand, which had apparently been hit by a strong gust and torn from its anchorage. Hunting colleagues found the 57-year-old lifeless under the overturned stand. After this tragedy, the Weilheim criminal investigation department is now investigating.

Hail islands from the previous evening can still be found on Monday morning

A massive storm hit the northern district on Saturday, and the next, even more destructive, followed on Sunday.

In the early evening, says Murnau's police chief Joachim Loy, there was “nowhere else to get through” in the direction of Weilheim.

In addition to the B2, white islands stood out on Monday morning - relics of the hail from the previous evening.

In some villages such as Seehausen and Bad Bayersoien, fallen trees, clogged gullies and water in cellars kept the fire brigades on their toes.

Murnau's commander Florian Krammer spoke of "peanuts compared to others" in view of the little things in his place.

In the entire Uffingen municipality, the power goes out on Sunday

In the district these were mainly Spatzenhausen and Uffing; there were almost apocalyptic scenes. Uffing's mayor Andreas Weiß even got the impression of "war-like conditions": The electricity went out in the entire municipality on Sunday, telephones no longer worked, and the hamlets of Höldern, Kirnberg and Luketsried had to get by with an emergency supply yesterday at noon. Everything that had legs stood with tools on the street, cleaned gullies, cleared away dirt, built sandbags. Around 50 fire services came together over the weekend in Uffing and the Schöffau district, and there was water in around 30 cellars. Schöffau had already been hit hard on Saturday. Masses of water streamed from the hills, at the same time the storm tore leaves from the trees, clogging gullies.Water made its way through light shafts, outside stairs and doors into houses. Farmers moved out to “clear the snow” - so high was there sometimes a trickle on the street.

The formative linden tree on the Uffinger church square fell victim to storms

Storm and precipitation hit both districts on Sunday.

Trees blocked roads, and water ran into houses.

The linden tree on Uffing's church square, under which the band had played in the morning, has also been history since Sunday evening: the massive storm uprooted it and caused the trunk to break.

“It's really empty there now,” says Weiß.

For him there is no question that “we will do something there again”.

On Monday clean-up work was in progress - and preparations for a possible further storm.

Sandbags were stacked in order to divert the problematic trench Am Lindenfeld in Schöffau.

Spatzenhauser fire brigade commander: "Impact was extraordinary"

The extreme storms hit Spatzenhausen twice on the weekend with heavy rain, hail and a violent storm. “On Saturday, Hofheim was more affected, on Sunday Spatzenhausen,” says fire department commander Josef Miller. In Hofheim, among other things, the power went out for several hours. In Spatzenhausen, the storm knocked down large deciduous trees on the B2, and various others blocked several other streets. Even the way to the Spatzenhausen fire station was initially blocked. Two old trees that dominated the townscape were knocked down by the storm at the end of the town in the direction of Eglfing. “The impact was extraordinary,” says Miller. Since the rescue service was tied up, the volunteers also accompanied an emergency doctor to an elderly woman who was known and loved in the village. According to Miller, the attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful."There were five people there for whom it was very stressful."

Mourning, forces of nature, damage, destroyed maize in the fields

District, district and local farm manager Christine Singer from Hofheim also blocked the weekend, above all the death in the village moved her.

Then there was the forces of nature, the damage, the destroyed maize in the fields: “I've never seen a hurricane like this,” she says.

Your house facade, says the deputy country farmer, had been sandblasted like sandblasted by cross-flying trickles.

But Singer also looks at the devastating flood on the Ahr - this perspective puts a lot into perspective for her.
