The federal government is alarmed - and now wants to talk about additional measures.

Berlin - In view of the rapidly increasing number of corona infections, the federal government wants to advise on stronger countermeasures.

Deputy government spokeswoman Ulrike Demmer said the current situation is a cause for concern despite the low incidence.

As of today, the number of cases has risen by 75 percent within a week.

"If this development continues like this, we will have to take additional measures." Everything should be done to avoid a situation like the one in spring, she said with a view to the third major corona wave that has passed.

Together with the federal states, it should therefore be considered in the coming days and weeks what is possible and what can be done, said Demmer.

This should also be the subject of a round with the Prime Ministers.

She has not yet given a date for this.

The focus is on efforts to achieve a higher vaccination rate, how to deal with those returning from travel and possible concrete measures to counter the rising numbers.

Government wants "no compulsory vaccination through the back door"

Demmer emphasized that those who have been completely vaccinated and those who have recovered with a single vaccination - in contrast to those tested using a rapid test - no longer make a relevant contribution to the infection process.

Tests are also not 100 percent reliable and meaningful.

She emphasized that the federal government wanted "no vaccination through the back door".

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of new infections reported per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days rose further to 14.3 - the previous day the value was 13.8 and the most recent low on July 6th was 4.9.
