We met John Kerry, the United States' special climate envoy, at the Villa Taverna. Accompanied by his close collaborator David Thorne, former ambassador to Rome, he was then attentively studying the preparatory documents for the G20 summit on the environment, which opened yesterday in Naples. John Kerry is aware of Beijing's objections as well as inter-European tensions, but he sees further: he believes
"in a convergence of the G20 on the commitments of the G7",
he speaks of a
"possible cooperation with Moscow",
he welcomes the
“EU cohesion”
despite the controversies surrounding the “Green Deal”, and he looks confidently on the United Nations conference to be held in Glasgow next November, because
"The co-presidency of Italy and the United Kingdom is auspicious".
