In the early hours of today (July 27), the Hong Kong Journalists Association issued a statement on its social media page, alleging that the Association was extremely concerned about a journalist and was detained for its travel documents for assisting the National Security Office of the police in investigating the case.

The HKSAR stated that on July 1 this year, a man was suspected of assaulting a police officer in Causeway Bay and then committed suicide.
On the day of the incident, a large number of reporters interviewed the scene. The police later contacted several reporters, including an online media reporter whose footage was taken to the moment of the incident during the live broadcast.
The reporter, accompanied by a lawyer arranged by the Association of Journalists, went to the Wan Chai Police Headquarters the day after the incident and took a statement from the police officer of the Commercial Crime Investigation Division who was in charge of investigating the case at the time.
The statement continued that the police promised at that time that if they need to contact the victim in the future, they will contact the lawyer through a lawyer and also inform the Association of Records.
At that time, the police also stated that the identity of the reporter was "assisting in the investigation."
However, the Association has learned that at 11 o'clock in the evening last night (26th), officers of the National Security Service arrived at the reporter's temporary residence without contacting a lawyer and requested to give a statement at the police station.
The victim later called the lawyer accompanied by the staff of the National Security Department, stating that he did not need a lawyer to accompany him.
During the confession, only one friend was with him.
The victim was then taken back to his original residence to search for evidence.
The Journalist Association pointed out that the police did not take the initiative to notify the Journalist Association as it had promised.
After learning about the incident, the HKJA's representative lawyer arrived at the Chai Wan Police Station at 1:00 am today (27th) after many mediations, and accompanied his colleagues to take the confession.
According to the Association's understanding, the current identity of the victim is still "assisting investigation", but a warning statement has been taken and the travel document has been detained.
It is understood that the National Security Department of the police exercised its power to detain the travel documents of the victim.
The Journalist Association emphasized that a reporter who filmed a suspected crime during the live broadcast was merely fulfilling his role as a journalist, and the victim has also done his civic responsibility.
The HKMA asked the police to explain why the "assisted investigation" was searched and the travel documents were confiscated.
At the same time, he also emphasized that this incident is equivalent to threatening all journalists in Hong Kong.
