She was 13 when she was killed.
He had to wait 66 years to finally have a funeral. It is the story of Lucia Mantione, known as "Lucietta", strangled on January 6, 1955 during an attempted violence.
The child had rebelled against the attacker, ended up suffocating. After three days of searching, his body was found in a farmhouse one kilometer from Montedoro, a town of about 1500 inhabitants in the province of Caltanissetta.
However, "Lucietta" was denied a funeral: the parish priest of the time strictly applied the principle that forbids the funeral rite in cases of violent death. The country, however, has cultivated the memory of that tragedy and has continued to ask for truth and respect for the murdered child.
The case has now been reopened by the Prosecutor's Office of Caltanissetta and the remains of "Lucietta" have been exhumed for a forensic examination and DNA extraction. On this occasion the funeral denied at the time was organized. They will be held in the afternoon of July 28, with the presence of the body, in the parish of Santa Maria del Rosario.
