Daraa-Sana
The competent authorities in Daraa thwarted an attempt to smuggle dozens of antiquities out of Syria.
The head of the Daraa Antiquities Department, Dr. Muhammad Khair Nasrallah, indicated that the department received 42 artifacts that the competent authorities had confiscated earlier and prevented their smuggling abroad.
Nasrallah explained that all the pieces will be cleaned and treated in preparation for displaying some of them in the Daraa National Museum.
Wael Kiwan, curator of Daraa National Museum, indicated that the confiscated artifacts are pottery and glassware dating back to the Roman, Hellenistic and Late Modern Bronze periods, noting that the pieces are saddles, pots, cups, flasks, vases and a seal.
It is noteworthy that the competent authorities and the Daraa Department of Antiquities have recovered thousands of artifacts dating back to various historical periods since 2018, which were stolen by terrorist groups from archaeological sites in the southern region.
