For the seniors in the day care of the ecumenical neighborhood help, it is a gift: Since the small patio on the edge of the site on Sulzbogen was finished, they have been enjoying coffee, reading the newspaper and chatting outdoors instead of in stuffy rooms.

The project was made possible by a donation program.

Fürstenfeldbruck - Whenever the weather permits, day care guests are drawn to the outdoors. They sit on comfortable cushions in the wooden octagon while the cars drive by outside. A little green oasis. Parasols still protect them from the heat. But soon the pergola should be overgrown with plants - a natural shade provider. “It's nice out here, that was missing,” says Elisabeth Fürst. The 83-year-old enjoys the ambience just like the other seniors. In the morning, the supervisors read from the newspaper, do crossword puzzles and memory training, in the afternoon there is coffee and cake in the open air. “And we get a lot of oxygen here,” adds a senior citizen.

The patio was built last year.

It went well, although the Sulzbogen was also being prepared at the same time.

"We feared a failure due to the corona, but that was not the case," reports Christine Grunert, managing director of the ecumenical neighborhood aid.

The craftsmen were flexible.

A star-shaped base plate was laid on the foundation.

A landscaper laid out the raised beds.

“The guests planted flowers and herbs,” reports Grunert.

They should stimulate all the senses.

Therefore, the guests tend the beds themselves, weed and water.

The project cost around 40,000 euros.

It was financed by the government of Upper Bavaria's funding program for the structural upgrading of day care.

The city supported the project benevolently.

And the community foundation for the Fürstenfeldbruck district also contributed tables and a storage box so that the supervisors don't have to carry everything out every time.

"It's a relief for the employees," says Nursing Manager Susanne Beistle.

In the past they could only go into the inner courtyard and had to pack everything together.

“Now we just have to take the seniors out.” And it's nicer to work in the fresh air - especially in times of Corona.

Because although almost all guests and staff are vaccinated, you feel safer.

The day care guests primarily use the space, explains Grunert.

But outside of these times, other facilities from the multi-generation house are also allowed in.

A grid ensures that no uninvited visitors come.

The guests of the day care have already inaugurated their outdoor space - with a ribbon cut and a glass of sparkling wine. The official opening has not yet allowed the corona pandemic.

But postponed is not canceled.

As soon as possible, there will be a festival with representatives from the city and the craftsmen.
