Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced today that the Kremlin is following the developments in the situation in Tunisia.
Russia Today website quoted Peskov as saying: "Of course we are following the news from Tunisia and we hope that nothing threatens the security and stability of the citizens of that country."
Yesterday, several Tunisian regions witnessed mass demonstrations against the practices of the Brotherhood "Ennahda" movement. Mass demonstrations took place in the cities of El Kef, Kairouan, Gafsa, Sousse, Bizerte and Sfax, to demand the dissolution of the movement, while demonstrators attacked its headquarters, blaming it for the economic crisis and failure to confront the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, forcing the Tunisian President Yesterday evening, he announced the freezing of Parliament and the dismissal of the Prime Minister from his post against the backdrop of the protests. He also announced his assumption of executive power with the help of a new prime minister appointed by him.
For its part, the Russian embassy in Tunisia announced that it had no information on the incidents of arresting Russian citizens in the country due to public order disturbances, and that it had not received requests for consular support from them due to the political situation in the country.
In a press statement, the embassy also indicated that the situation in Tunisia remains generally calm, adding: “No requests for medical assistance have been registered so far by Russian citizens residing in Tunisia.” However, the embassy advised Russian citizens to take all necessary precautions, including abandoning Tours within the country and avoid being in crowded places, including commercial centers.
