- The thunderclouds were looming over the Weilheim-Schongau district in the late afternoon.

While it rained heavily in many places and also hailed in small grains, the area around the municipality of Obersöchering was hit with full force.

Hurricane gusts, heavy rain and large hailstones left a path of devastation.

Thunderstorm in Obersöchering: Trees are being uprooted in rows

Rows of large trees were uprooted along the B2 / B472.

Branches, leaves and splintered logs blocked the main road.

Numerous emergency services, but also other volunteers with heavy equipment, are still on site at the moment to at least clear the road again.

The traffic came to a complete standstill in the meantime.

The federal highway was closed.

The police are there.

Numerous firefighters are also in constant use.

In the evening, the police in Schongau still had no overview of the damage caused by the short, but all the more severe storm. According to the officials, the thunderstorm cells were drawn up from the southwest around 5 p.m. and raged in Prem, Steingaden and Rottenbuch before moving on to the northeast and hit Eglfing, Obersöchering, Iffeldorf and Habach with full force. The maypole fell over in Prem and damaged several cars. According to initial reports, people were not harmed. "We were pretty lucky," said one officer. According to the police, the fire brigades in the southwestern district were in constant use. Because of the heavy rain, numerous cellars had filled up and had to be pumped out.

The integrated control center (ILS) Oberland in Weilheim, which also coordinates the operations in the neighboring districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, counted 87 operations in the district by 7.30 p.m.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen got off with 35 and 18 alarms respectively.

"Not counted are all operations that have been received by the fire brigade," said a spokesman.

According to the ILS, the focus was on Prem, Iffeldorf and Habach - there a tree fell on a car, two people were slightly injured.

In addition, the church tower in Huglfing was covered.

"The remaining missions were simple storms."

The DWD had even issued a level three storm warning in some regions.
