Nadia Podoroska took a new step in her illusion at the Tokyo Olympic Games: in the early hours of Monday, the Argentine tennis player beat the Russian Yekaterina Aleksandrova 6-1 and 6-3 and

reached the round of 16 of the women's tournament

.

Rosario was very successful with her returns, breaking the Russian's serve on the four occasions in which she served in the first set, which closed with a clear 6-1.

Podoroska, who had never beaten Aleksandrova in the two matches they had played so far on the WTA circuit, kept her concentration in the second heat and a break was enough to score the set (6-3) and the match in an hour and 28 minutes.

"She started a little erratic; I was defending when I had to defend, playing deep and when I had the chance to risk a little so that she was not so comfortable playing", analyzed the Peque.

For Podoroska (24 years old), "it was a very good game, I don't think it was the best of the year, but it helps me to continue adding confidence."

With a solid performance, the Rosario overcame some ups and downs and achieved her second victory in the tournament.

The Spanish Badosa, her rival

The Spanish Paula Badosa (N.29), one of the fittest tennis players this season, took another step towards her goal of reaching a medal in Tokyo-2020 and qualified for the round of 16 after defeating Iga Swiatek (8 °).

Faced with a Top 10 and winner of Roland Garros in 2020, Badosa did not show signs of pressure and got rid of the Polish in two sets, 6-3 and 7-6 (4).

Swiatek broke Badosa's serve in the fourth game of the first set to go 3-1, but that seemed to wake up Badosa, who had five consecutive games to score the first set.

In the second set, both players alternated moments of great solvency with the serve with others in which it was difficult for them to add with their service.

After a break for each, Badosa was placed with 6-5 in favor and two balls of the victory (30-30), but Swiatek reacted and saved the situation.
