The classification of

Romina Biagioli

, a 32-year-old triathlete from Cordoba, to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was truly heroic.

After a year and a half with many obstacles due to the pandemic, he competed on the last date

with a cracked rib

and still managed to get a ticket to Japan.

In this way, she became the second Argentine Olympic athlete in triathlon, after Nancy Álvarez in Athens 2004.

“I would have liked to complete those races in a different way, but now the goal is to do my best in my first Olympics.

I hope that the preparation and the trip go as well as possible, we know that it will be a different event due to the measures of the pandemic, ”says Biagioli, already focused on what will be his visit to Tokyo,

where the triathlon will begin at 6.30 pm this Monday .

-Where do you put this historical classification and with what expectations did you arrive in Tokyo?

-It is undoubtedly the greatest result of my career, something I dreamed of and expected for a long time.

I still do not fall.

It is a pride to be able to represent the country and I would like it to be the motivation for the women's triathlon to continue growing in Argentina.

-After fighting her for so many years, what message do you leave to the girls who today dream of being like you?

-I wanted it to stay for those who come: there are no excuses, you have to go looking for the result to get support, because if not it is impossible, but more than anything it is a personal achievement, that in the face of adversity you can achieve a great dream .

This is also a tribute to what my parents instilled in me.

Romina Biagioli, ready to debut in the triathlon of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Romina began with swimming, a family tradition in which her sister Cecilia stands out, who will also say present in Tokyo, her fifth Olympic participation, to compete in open water.

However, over time he turned to triathlon, a discipline that combines swimming with cycling and running.

"The idea of triathlon is perhaps not to excel in any discipline but to stay in all three over time, which is the most difficult," he says.

-You are going to fulfill two dreams: participate and also share the Olympic Games.

with your sister.

-Unfortunately, I think that we will not be able to see each other there because of the restrictions.

Cecilia led by example all her life, she is one of the most responsible people I know.

It is a pride for me that we are all three, because my brother will also be there (NdR: Claudio, team leader in open water).

Triathlon was incorporated as an Olympic sport in the Sydney 2000 Games and in Tokyo they will debut a team relay modality (without Argentine representatives).

The test consists of 1500m of swimming, 40km of cycling and 10k of running, the discipline that is best given to Biagioli.

The Cordovan will compete on Monday July 26 at the Odaiba Marine Park.

-How do you anticipate the competition in Tokyo?

-It will be a race with heavy weather.

In the test event they reduced running due to the heat, but I hope it will be 10 kilometers because it is one of my strengths and it would be unfair for the distance to be reduced.

The cycling circuit is going to be quite technical for triathletes, flat but with some pick-ups and curves.

That will add a little more flavor to it.

-At 32 years old and the dream fulfilled, do you dare to think about the next Olympics?

-Maybe I will try to be in Paris 2024, but my main objective is to motivate the appearance of other Argentine representatives in triathlon.

A tribute to healthcare personnel

Romina Biagioli, with the clothing she will wear at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Biagioli will compete in Tokyo with a special outfit, which seeks to

pay tribute to health personnel

, the great heroes who fought against the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.

The shirt you will wear, designed by Shimano (one of its sponsors) pays various tributes to healthcare personnel throughout its design.

It has a stethoscope on the front, connected to the heart and the Argentine flag, behind it shows the sign of Hippocrates, the father of medicine, and on one of its sleeves you can read two messages, both in Spanish and English:

" Eternal thanks ”

and

“ skin of the brave ”

.

"With this humble tribute, we wanted to highlight the invaluable work of those who were, since the beginning of the pandemic, in the front line of battle against this terrible virus that came to change the world," said

Nicolás Muszkat

, Sales Director of the brand. Japanese for Latin America.

A way of recognizing not only doctors, but also nurses, kinesiologists, radiologists, laboratory personnel, intensive care, caregivers, ambulances and all those who were involved in the fight against Covid-19 and

the defense of health
