Zeng Junhua himself loves fencing. He joined the fencing team when he was in high school in the United States. He went to the fencing school to learn swordsmanship and footwork with Italian coaches. In high school, he won many intercity fencing competitions and was promoted to MIT. After college, he also joined the fencing team.
In the 1980s, Zeng Junhua returned to Hong Kong and recommended himself to coach the La Salle Fencing Team. From 1985 to 2017, the La Salle Fencing Team won ten academic championships.
During his years in the university fencing team, Zeng Junhua practiced with the world champion John Hamenberg. He recalled that he had two drinks with the coach and John Hamenberg in the bar, which influenced them. With regards to fencing and life, John, who was born in Sweden, had no chance to develop a fencing career, so he applied to Li Gong of Massachusetts, but unexpectedly regained his confidence in fencing here, and finally returned to China to participate in fencing competitions and become the world champion.
