Two police officers from Yonkers, New York, were having breakfast on Friday morning minutes after running away when they saw a car run over a mother and daughter, in addition to colliding with several vehicles.

“I have the baby,” says
one of the officers who, with the help of passersby who helped lift the vehicle, pulled the girl out from
under a 2005 Hyundai Elantra.
The rescue came around 8:30 a.m. Friday after a runaway driver crashed into a parked car on Lake Avenue and struck an unsuspecting mother crossing the street with her 8-month-old baby.
Both were dragged until the vehicle finally stopped inside a hair salon.

“Honestly, it is a miracle that they are alive.
She is a very strong mom and a baby who is also very strong, ”said Officer Rocco Fusco, in an interview with
ABC News.
The 36-year-old mother has a fractured femur and the baby suffered a skull fracture and third-degree burns to her back and foot,
according to police officers.
Authorities said they are expected to survive their injuries.
“Incredible work from everyone involved.
I hope the baby is okay, ”said a person who commented on the video on the Yonkers Police Department's Instagram account.

The driver of the vehicle, David Poncurak, 43, of Yonkers, was charged with
driving while intoxicated, driving without a license and vehicular assault
, police said.
"It is always a tragedy when someone is injured by the reckless and criminal acts of another person and that is only magnified when the injured include a baby," Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller said in a statement praising the efforts of your team.
“Fortunately, two veteran Yonkers officers were eating breakfast nearby and quickly took action, along with community members, to rescue a girl trapped under the vehicle and help her mother.
Without a doubt, their actions are heroic, ”Mueller said.
