Where to start when you want to make your home smart?

Some devices that can connect to the internet have a higher price and at home we already have old appliances that we can give a new look to using smart contacts.

At

CNN Underscored in Spanish

we were able to test Joint, a smart plug from the Tecnolite brand, which allows you to automate your home without having to replace your appliances and this is what we found during our analysis:

The first steps with Joint de Tecnolite

The small box contains a plug for MX $ 283 and for the device to work you only have to follow three steps: connect to the light, turn on the device and configure it from the Tecnolite Connect application.

  • This is Govee, the immersive lighting system for your television that brings colors off the screen

That sounds simple, but for those who have never done it or are not familiar with the application interface, it will be difficult to find the device among the various connector options that appear within the application and more because none appears directly with the name of Joint at the bottom.

While selecting the plug to configure from the app, you must also press the power button for a few seconds until it starts flashing red and blue.

Once synchronized, you can connect it with any appliance.

I opted to test it first with a lamp and then with my video game console.

You can turn it on with Alexa and the Google Assistant

The Joint can be turned on and off manually by pressing the button and will show red when off and blue when on.

It's best to set it up with Alexa or the Google Assistant so we can ask them to wake up the device and that's pretty quick.

  • Is Kindle the best e-reader of 2021?

We tried various options and this is our verdict

In the Tecnolite Connect application you must go to the main menu where you will see the option to synchronize it with the services of the Amazon and Google assistant.

You can control the on and off through the application or directly with your voice thanks to the assistants.

This will allow you to save up to 68% of energy from your smartphone.

How we test

  • Ease of use:

Among the points that were analyzed are the ease with which the plug could be configured and the time it took and, although the time is quite good, it is complex to connect it at the beginning with the application.

  • Utility:

For those of us who have more devices connected with voice assistants such as Alexa, it is very good to be able to integrate it into that system to be able to turn off all the plugs when leaving home by just giving a voice command and not doing it manually.

  • Benefit:

In addition to the energy savings already mentioned, it is good to have the assurance that even if your devices are connected and there is a download, they will remain safe if the Joint is turned off.

Contrary to what is thought about smart homes, it is not necessary to spend thousands of pesos or do major renovations to enjoy this type of products and technology.

According to Tecnolite, using plugs of this type helps us reduce up to 68% of energy consumption in the home.
