In view of the increasing incidence and progress in vaccination, the discussion about how to deal with the pandemic is picking up speed again.

For Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, the situation is clear.

Munich - In the fight against a possible fourth Corona * wave, Bavaria's Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) has spoken out against another lockdown.

“I'm definitely fighting against closing industries that are now open,” Aiwanger told

.

At the same time, the Bavarian Deputy Prime Minister pleaded for higher incidence values.

The federal-state summit with Angela Merkel planned for the end of August should also take place "promptly", "and not just after the summer," demanded Aiwanger.

Mr. Aiwanger, nationwide the incidence figures are rising again significantly.

Many experts, such as the virologist Prof. Christian Drosten, see the development with growing concern.

How should politics deal with the now rising incidences?

For politics, incidence is an important indicator of the infection rate. It just matters not to draw the wrong conclusions from it. What is important now, among other things, is a prompt scientific analysis of which social groups are currently infected where, in order to be able to take targeted countermeasures. Not that in the end, for example, the trade will be closed again, although the infections may take place in the private party room or elsewhere. Science has to provide politicians with reliable information so that we can make the right decisions.

In view of rising incidences, the first federal states are urging to bring forward the conference of prime ministers with Chancellor Angela Merkel, which is planned for the end of August, and to revise the current regulations.

Do we need an earlier appointment for the MPK?

The MPK has to exchange information regularly and it would be appropriate as soon as possible, not after the summer.

It's also about returning travelers, etc.

In your opinion, which infection protection regulations should apply in the future?

There is now an often no longer manageable abundance of Corona * regulations.

The central point is still: keep your distance, otherwise test or mask and vaccinate for a few months.

Many observers are pushing for the current limit values to be adjusted because of the increasing incidence.

In view of increasing vaccination rates, can we afford higher incidence values?

As long as there are no new mutations or weakening of the vaccine effect, from the current point of view: yes.

The current threshold values are 10, 35 and 50. If the values are higher, the regulations of the federal states provide for more stringent measures such as contact restrictions or stricter requirements for major events or the catering trade.

Do the corresponding values not have to be raised in the Free State and in the federal government?

We have to constantly question the meaning of these threshold values and adapt them to new developments and findings.

If possible, only as many restrictions as can be justified.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn has indirectly advocated raising the previous threshold from 50 to 200.

In your opinion, would such a quadrupling of the previous threshold values be a sensible approach?

It is going in the right direction and shows the dynamism in this question.

Politicians must in any case develop the insight that one has to react flexibly to a new situation and not always slam lockdown with the old mallet.

Most recently, Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier ruled out a new lockdown.

Is the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs also so clear on this?

The lockdown is not yet over for all industries.

In any case, I am fighting against closing sectors that are now open.

But we Free Voters do not rule alone in Bavaria and are not yet part of the federal government.

I cannot guarantee for the others.
