Traveling in Polynesia, affected by the consequences of global warming, the Head of State clarified the government's plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Currently traveling in Polynesia, Emmanuel Macron defined in an interview with France Info the two pillars of the French strategy to act against climate change.

The Head of State first advocates the reduction of CO2 emissions.

"On this, we are accelerating,"

he insisted, recalling the commitment to

"carbon neutrality 2050"

, and the

"climate package"

recently presented by the European Commission.

The President of the Republic then invited to

“build resilience

”, to “

adapt

”, and to “

resist these disturbances

”.

For this, he particularly wishes to "

equip our hospitals, our schools, our retirement homes in the face of global warming

"

.

"

In the recovery plan was that, equip us to deal with hot weather that can happen on a more or less long periods in our latitudes too

"

,

also said Emmanuel Macron.

"We are lucky to have nuclear power"

He also defended an

“overseas strategy, which is to develop renewable energy more massively”

, emphasizing the benefits in terms of sovereignty, costs and the climate.

"

We are lucky to have historic nuclear power, but we must continue to develop our renewables

", he then continued, referring to "

biomass, geothermal energy, solar power and wind power

"

.

On this last subject, that of wind turbines, oppositions are increasing in France, in particular because of the impact of these devices on the landscape.

"

We must not fall into any caricature, there are places where we can do wind projects because they are suitable and relevant,

" replied Emmanuel Macron.

"Case by case" for wind turbines

He called for doing it “on a

case-by-case basis

”, evoking “

places that are already well endowed and where there is no consensus and where we will have to build alternative strategies ourselves”.

Emmanuel Macron nevertheless affirmed his attachment to the landscapes of France, believing that "

it is a part of our heritage, of our deep wealth, of our identity".

"

I want us to continue to develop solar energy, which is less harmful to our fellow citizens,"

he explained.
