The Forstern-Tading neighborhood help has also felt the restrictions caused by the corona pandemic.

The volunteers spent a total of 299 hours on relief missions last year - the previous year it was 500 hours.

In return, the Forsterner Kochtopf, the food delivery service for seniors, has seen a greater number of visitors.

Forstern - Due to the corona, neighborhood help was unable to hold an annual general meeting last year.

That is why the board quartet around chairwoman Helga Wilms looked back on two years in the small gym on Saturday afternoon.

The hours worked showed what influence the corona pandemic has on the work of volunteers.

In 2020, for example, there was hardly any demand for care for the elderly, while the Forsterner cooking pot grew considerably.

"Corona has given the food delivery a big boost," said cashier Bettina Konstabel.

Almost 55,000 euros were turned over here last year, a good 12,000 euros more than in the previous year.

The total number of delivered meals that the Hirschbachwirt cooks has risen by 1500 to almost 6200.

In 2019, two new drivers were won for the saucepan, and Werner Dittrich took over the coordination.

When it comes to delivering food, the neighborhood help cooperates with Pastetten, where three drivers are currently on duty.

Neighborhood Aid Forstern: "Help in 2020 was not easy"

Wilms thanked not only them, but also the heads of operations, the currently around 28 helpers and all donors who support the work of the association.

Among other things, the readers' aid organization "Licht in die Herzen" of the local newspaper has made donations in the past few years, which in turn have flowed to citizens worthy of support.

At the beginning of the corona pandemic, private individuals and companies also donated self-made masks and disinfectants for the helpers, and later also FFP2 masks.

2nd chairwoman Brigitte Hamel reported that in 2019 there were still game afternoons, cinema trips, chair gymnastics, extended birthday visits, the barrier-free excursion, joint meetings and lectures.

In 2020, all of this was as good as on hold: "From March everything was canceled."

In cooperation with the neighborhood aid, the Forstern crisis aid was created very quickly in the first lockdown, for example to help older citizens or those in quarantine with shopping or going for walks.

In the summer, a regulars' table in the beer garden was possible, and together with the community, parish, family support point and social contact Mathias Weigl, the “Together for Forstern” initiative was founded in order to be able to help unbureaucratically.

In addition, neighborhood help has invested in more crockery for the saucepan and handed out food parcels to families and individuals at Christmas.

“All in all, helping in 2020 was not that easy.

But it's great that we were able to do it, ”said Wilms, who wished“ that we can finally start again ”.

If the situation allows, Reinhard Anger will give a lecture on living wills in the autumn, and regular round tables are also planned.

"The flood disaster has shown us in a dramatic way how important help is among neighbors," said Mayor Rainer Streu, referring to the recent floods.

“Don't look the other way, get involved” is the motto.

"The community of Forstern can be all the more proud that this has been our practice for years," said Streu and added: "Thank you, you're doing a great job."

Former Mayor Els becomes an honorary member

Georg Els

was once the

driving force behind the establishment of the Forstern-Tading neighborhood aid.

As mayor, he was a born member of the board for many years, from which he left last May.

“But we didn't want to just leave it like that,” said chairwoman Helga Wilms at the annual general meeting.

In order to honor his commitment, it was decided

to name

Els as the

first honorary member of the association

.

"I am aware that this honor is actually due to the board of directors and helpers," said Els and looked back: "We have done a lot of things very well." The Corona period shows that neighborhood help has become "more important than ever".

Els promised: "You can continue to count on me."
