The Federal Ministry of Health is apparently planning a significant expansion of the test requirement for travelers returning.

As the newspapers of the Funke Mediengruppe report, Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) wants to oblige travelers in the future to submit a negative corona test when they enter Germany - regardless of which areas and which means of transport they come to Germany from.

So far, the obligation to test applies to air passengers and travelers from high-risk areas who are not fully vaccinated against the coronavirus or who have not recovered from Covid-19 disease.

Now the Ministry of Health wants "the fastest possible expansion of the test requirements on entry," it says in the media report.

A spokeswoman for the ministry said that the government is voting on tightening the corona travel requirements.

According to the report, Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) has so far resisted Spahn's plans in the cabinet.

She therefore considers the comprehensive test obligation to be disproportionate.

Union Prime Ministers advise on Coronalage

On Tuesday, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) wants to interconnect with the CDU Prime Minister. One reason is the concern that there is a new surge of new infections with holidaymakers and those returning to travel, because the incidence in many European countries is much higher than in Germany. On the other hand, several Prime Ministers and Health Minister Spahn have emphasized that the limit values for new corona restrictions would have to be redefined.

Spain and the Netherlands have been high incidence areas since midnight.

This means that additional requirements apply when entering Germany from there: Anyone returning to Germany from a high-incidence area and not fully vaccinated or recovered must be in quarantine for ten days, but can shorten this after five days with a negative test.
