Will all travelers returning to Germany have to present a negative corona test in the future, regardless of which areas and which means of transport travelers come to Germany from?

Berlin - The federal government is advising on extended test obligations for travelers returning as corona protection at the end of the summer vacation time.

The Ministry of Health is in favor of "the fastest possible expansion of the testing requirements upon entry," as a spokeswoman said on request on Tuesday.

The votes within the government were ongoing.

First, the newspapers of the Funke media group reported about it.

Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) had already made it clear last week that, from his point of view, like that of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, an expansion of the test obligation should come very quickly.

Spahn and Seehofer: In future, generally require a test

So far, there has been a general test obligation for all flight passengers.

Proof of a negative result must already be made in the holiday country and presented before the start to Germany - or proof of a recovered or fully vaccinated person.

According to the ideas of Spahn and Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU), a test should in principle be required in the future, regardless of the areas from which and with which means of transport travelers come to Germany.

Those who are neither vaccinated nor have a corona infection behind them would have to take a corona test, for example, even if they were traveling from Poland by car.

According to reports, stationary border controls are not part of the concept.

Existing regulations will be extended

On this Wednesday, a new entry regulation decided by the cabinet comes into force.

Since there was no agreement on the regulation planned by Spahn and Seehofer, the existing regulations will essentially be extended until September 10th.

There is a relief for those arriving from virus variant areas in which new, worrying forms of the virus are circulating.

So far, those who have recovered and who have been vaccinated who come back from there have to be in quarantine for 14 days.

In future, this can be ended prematurely if the affected region is no longer classified as a virus variant area during the quarantine period.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) publishes on its website which foreign regions the federal government classifies as high-risk, high-incidence or virus variant areas with special requirements.
