Reigning Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles was left out of the team final after apparently suffering an injury during the jump.
The 24-year-old American star, considered the greatest gymnast of all time, snuggled up next to her coach after landing.
He immediately left the competition track with the team doctor.
Biles returned several minutes later with his right leg bandaged.
She took off the bar grip and hugged her teammates Grace McCallum, Sunisa Lee and Jordan Chiles before donning a jacket and pants.
Biles arrived in Tokyo as the undisputed star of the Games, but struggled, at least for his high level, during qualifying.
