Munich - For several weeks, storms and floods have kept the entire Federal Republic in suspense.

In addition to western Germany, the Berchtesgadener Land in Bavaria was particularly hard hit - most recently the Allgäu and the Oberland.

The damage has not yet been repaired, but according to the German Weather Service (DWD), renewed storms are forecast in the Free State from late afternoon on Tuesday (July 27).

Storms are approaching Bavaria: flash floods and floods are possible

Until Wednesday night there are more showers and thunderstorms *.

In some places, "heavy rain with amounts between 15 and 25 liters per square meter in a short time" must be expected, according to the DWD.

Floods and extreme flash floods cannot be ruled out, according to the Bavarian Flood Service.

Weather in Bavaria: DWD warns of renewed thunderstorms with heavy rain and hailstones

Especially in the Alps, the southern foothills of the Alps and in the Bavarian Forest, up to 40 liters of rain per square meter could come down within a short time, according to the DWD.

Hailstones up to three centimeters in diameter and squalls * up to 90 kilometers per hour are also possible locally.

In parts of Franconia, there can be local heavy rain of around 20 liters per square meter.

This is followed by a brief relaxation, but not for long: from Wednesday afternoon, the risk of thunderstorms increases again, especially in the Alps, the southern Alpine foothills and the Bavarian Forest.

The "main danger", as the DWD writes, is local heavy rain of up to 40 liters per square meter in a very short time.
