The Nicaraguan National Police reported this Monday, through a statement - without specifying the place or circumstances - that it detained the opposition José Antonio Peraza Collado, who according to the institution is under investigation in accordance with Law 1055 , the "law for the defense of the rights of the people to independence, sovereignty and self-determination for peace."

According to the police statement, Peraza Collado, who is a political scientist and member of the independent group promoting electoral reforms, is being investigated for alleged "acts that undermine independence, sovereignty and self-determination and incite foreign interference in internal affairs of the country, request military interventions, organize with financing from foreign powers to carry out acts of terrorism and destabilization, propose and manage economic, commercial and financial operations blockades against the country and its institutions, demand, exalt and applaud the imposition of sanctions against the State of Nicaragua and its citizens, and injure the supreme interests of the nation. "

Peraza Collado appeared frequently as a political and electoral analyst in independent media. This Monday, he participated as a guest on Channel 10 of Nicaragua where he commented on the citizen verification process, in which, according to him, despite the good attendance, the presence of paramilitaries was reported, change of address of the citizen voting receiving boards and control of the governing party in the verification centers.

Peraza Collado, who was a director of the Movement for Nicaragua, joins a total of 28 opponents who remain in police custody.

Among them, 7 presidential candidates, detained between May 28 and July 26, less than 4 months before the elections scheduled for next November.

Of the total, 25 are investigated under Law 1055, for alleged actions against national sovereignty, while another three are linked to the alleged money laundering of the Violeta Barrios Foundation.

The relatives and private lawyers of those investigated reject the charges and, so far, say they have not been able to read the file of their cases.
