The Chaumet jewelry store, one of the most prestigious and old French houses of jewelry, jewelry and watchmaking, founded in 1780, was the victim of a "monumental" robbery, according to a police source, this Tuesday in Paris .
In the early evening, the judicial police took over the beautiful establishment on rue François-1er, located just behind the Champs-Elysées (8th arrondissement).
The robbery took place at 5:10 p.m.
A man, who arrived on a scooter, appeared with a handgun inside the store.
He managed to get hold of the jewelry before setting off again on his two-wheeler.
A first inventory assesses the damage at 2 million euros.
This is not the first time that the Chaumet house has been targeted.
In November 2009, the store in Place Vendôme, the jeweler's flagship, was the victim of a robbery.
The damage was still impressive: 1.9 million euros.
The prosecution confirms that a flagrant investigation by the head of armed robbery has been opened and the investigations have been entrusted to the banditry repression brigade of the Paris judicial police.
