Jan Pfeil was head of the police station in Penzberg for eight years.

Now the 50-year-old is moving to Rosenheim: as deputy chairman of the staff council at the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South.

He'll take off his uniform first, says Jan Pfeil.

"But I'm not hanging up on them."

Penzberg - What the works council is in a company, the staff council is in an authority. In the area of the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters, 17 staff councils represent the interests of around 3,000 employees. Jan Pfeil has been a member of the staff council for several years. In June he was elected deputy chairman. Which means: On August 1st, the police officer is going to Rosenheim as a released staff council.

On August 1, 2013, Jan Pfeil took over the inspection management in Penzberg, succeeding Harald Bauer.

The father of three came from the Weilheim police station.

It was "an exciting and entertaining time", says Jan Pfeil about his eight years in Penzberg.

He learned to appreciate the city and the people.

The "blue light family" was something special, the cooperation with the fire brigade, BRK, water rescue service and mountain rescue service.

“This camaraderie is unparalleled,” says Jan Pfeil.

He regrets all the more that nothing will come of the common blue light center at the Layritzhalle.

It was a "fantastic idea," he says.

Celebrities in Penzberg: Federal Chancellor, Prime Minister and Federal President

When Jan Pfeil thinks back on the past eight years, a number of missions come to mind. He and his colleagues from the Penzberg Inspection were jointly responsible for protecting Chancellor Angela Merkel (2014), Prime Minister Markus Söder (2019) and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (2019) during their visits to Penzberg. The Penzberg police were also involved in protecting the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau (2015). Shortly afterwards, thousands of refugees from Hungary came to Bavaria via Austria. Pfeil himself was a liaison officer in the Salzburg state control center to support the Austrian colleagues. Right next to the inspection in the gym, the government of Upper Bavaria set up refugee accommodation. You often had to de-escalate there, says Pfeil.

Disappointed about the refusal of a security guard

In 2016 he also experienced the first demonstration in Penzberg according to the right of assembly.

200 participants protested - successfully - against the felling of trees in front of the town hall.

He also remembers that in 2016 the Penzberg police were able to use a DNA measure to investigate the attempt to kill an eleven-year-old girl.

Or a large drug use with the Weilheim police force, in which two kilograms of drugs were seized.

The last few months have been shaped by the corona pandemic.

At the beginning, in spring 2020, a colleague was infected.

Twelve police officers had to be quarantined.

Nevertheless, the inspection managed to keep shift operations going.

A personal highlight for Jan Pfeil was a company outing - to Hamburg to the Davidwache on the Reeperbahn, the most famous police station in the Hanseatic city.

On the other hand, he was disappointed when the Penzberg city council rejected the introduction of a security guard in 2017.

Especially as multipliers of the infection protection rules and in view of the current leisure pressure, they would now be of help, he says.

Head of Inspection: Succession not yet settled

And now the farewell follows.

That doesn't mean that he doesn't like it anymore in Penzberg.

But in the past it has changed every five to eight years.

It was just about time, he says.

As a staff council, he will take off his uniform for the time being.

On the other hand, he doesn't want to rule out the fact that there are occasions to wear them.

In any case, he wasn't hanging her up.

Pfeil's successor has not yet been determined. Susanne Kettl, who has been Deputy Head for three years, will be acting as head of the inspection. Rolf Neubauer will be acting as deputy manager on an interim basis.
