At Stadtwerke Fürstenfeldbruck, too, Corona threw the year 2020 quite a mess.

Apart from that, the energy supplier struck clear stakes in terms of content on two important issues.

Fürstenfeldbruck

- When it comes to electricity from renewable energies, the municipal utilities are currently examining another wind turbine location in the district.

Stadtwerke boss Jan Hoppenstedt did not reveal where exactly this will be.

Do you need wind power?

“We need wind power,” emphasized Andreas Wohlmann, Head of Sales.

“It can't be done with photovoltaics alone.” Two wind turbines are already in the district.

According to the managing director of Stadtwerke Hoppenstedt, the two systems managed well last year.

“In Mammendorf we generated around 15 percent more kilowatt hours than planned.

In Maisach it is around ten percent, ”he reported.

And that even though 2020 was a year with less wind than the previous year.

Mayor Erich Raff also spoke out in favor of wind energy.

“The areas on the ground will run out at some point.” The performance of the wind turbines showed: “It doesn't work without it.” So far, the two wind turbines have not been a problem in the landscape.

"It does not harm our area if there are three or four more wind turbines," said Raff.

Will the solar expansion have an effect?

When generating electricity in 2020, the energy from photovoltaic systems immediately catches the eye.

Whereas in 2019 there were still 356 megawatt hours (MWh), in 2020 1230 MWh of solar power were generated.

"This is mainly due to the new PV system in Kottgeisering, which is driving the number up sharply," said the Stadtwerke managing director.

Because electricity generation from water declined, the municipal utilities are at the same level with a total of 33,408 MWh generated electricity compared to the previous years 2018 (33,442 MWh) and 2019 (33,408 MWh): "In terms of electricity generation, 2020 was a good year, but not a very good one, ”Hoppenstedt assesses the development.

In order to achieve the energy transition target in 2035, one to two percent would have to be increased annually, especially in the electricity sector.

So far, according to the Stadtwerke boss, 47 percent of electricity generation has been generated from renewable energies.

A strong build-up has already taken place, especially in the area of wind and solar energy.

However, it is still missing until the 100 percent mark.

What's next with the ice rink?

Hoppenstedt clearly rejected the much discussed ice rink.

"Because of the investments in the Amperoase, it is not possible to operate the ice rink from the municipal utility's point of view."

Lord Mayor Erich Raff referred to an alternative on the subject of the ice rink. "It is currently being checked whether a roof over the ice surface is not possible." Hoppenstedt considered building a two-storey changing room on Schöngeisinger Strasse as a noise protection wall. Because the changing rooms at the ice rink are no longer required due to the demolition of the indoor pool. “But these are all just deliberations. To this day we do not know whether a lightweight roof is even feasible, ”emphasized Hoppenstedt.

The ice rink would continue to operate during the demolition of the old and the construction of the new indoor pool, assured Hoppenstedt.

"The plans for the new construction of the indoor swimming pool in the Amperoase are progressing," he announced.

It is expected that by the end of the year all issues such as building law, inventory protection and feasibility will be clarified and an architect selected.

How was the financial year?

The past year also left its mark on Stadtwerke Fürstenfeldbruck's annual report.

"2020 was not a normal year," said Hoppenstedt at the press conference on Monday.

The sales have decreased by around two thirds - the temporarily closed Amperoase plays with a million sales decline.

Nevertheless, the Stadtwerke boss was also able to present positive figures.

The annual surplus from the corona-torn year 2020 is at a record level.

"It is the second best result in the company's history," said Hoppenstedt.

In 2013, they once reached around 2.5 million euros.

Last year the surplus was 2.38 million euros.

Sales manager Wohlmann emphasized, however, that this key figure is always due to special effects and that the result always moves up or down.

How much electricity was delivered?

The technical key figures of the municipal utilities, such as the electricity sales volume, fell significantly in the report. According to the report, 252,980 megawatt hours (MWh) were sold in the 2019 financial year - last year it was around 7,000 MWh less (245,790). "That can of course be traced back to the Corona crisis," said Hoppenstedt, commenting on the development. Schools and small businesses, such as hairdressers, had closed, according to the Stadtwerke boss. Sales Manager Wohlmann added: "In April 2020 we had a 20 percent decline in the power grid." However, that was put into perspective again over the course of the year.

The sales volume in the drinking water network has also decreased slightly. While in 2019 it was 2,440,000 cubic meters, the municipal utilities recorded 2,418,000 last year. “This is due, among other things, to companies like Coca Cola,” said Hoppenstedt.
