Berlin - Even at the beginning of the new week, the daily new infections with the corona virus continue to increase.

The 7-day incidence in Germany rose to a value of 14.3 on Monday, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

In times of high temperatures and summer holidays in many federal states, special attention is paid to the monitoring of the pandemic, including those newly infected with the corona who have brought the virus with them from abroad.

Coronavirus: Ten percent of new infections come from abroad

With reference to this "imported" infection, the RKI will publish its weekly status report on Monday, which also focuses on the connection between travel and the increasing number of new infections. In the reporting weeks 25 to 28, there was a significant increase in travel-related corona infections. The number of cases that were infected with the coronavirus abroad has increased weekly in the past few weeks and was 986 in reporting week 28. Over the past four weeks, the RKI was able to determine a probable exposure abroad in a total of 2402 infections. This corresponds to about 10 percent of all reported cases.

It must be noted, however, that in 42 percent of the reported cases (9949 of 23,649) no information was given on the likely country of infection.

If you only consider the cases in which a probable country of infection is known, the proportion of infections abroad is even around 17.5 percent.

Infections on vacation: RKi sees the "increasing role" of travelers returning

"This shows an increasing role of travel-related cases in the current infection situation", the RKI sorts the latest figures in the weekly management report and also lists the most frequently mentioned infection countries in a table.

The front runner with 821 mentions in the past four weeks is Spain, followed by Russia (171) and the Netherlands (124).

Coronavirus: Most cases continue to be infected in Germany

By far the most nine infections were reported from Germany in the past four weeks (11,662).

Nevertheless, in the coming weeks the federal government could start curbing imported new infections by declaring other areas to be high-incidence or virus variant areas.
