Men, up to 81 kg: Sagi Muki won the first battle

After the disappointments the day before with Tohar Botbol and Timna Nelson Levy, Sagi Muki, perhaps the leading candidate to bring a medal to the Israeli judo delegation, opened the journey to an Olympic medal in Tokyo on the right foot, with an iPhone victory over Brazilian Eduardo Santos in less than two minutes.

In the quarterfinals, Muki will face Austrian Shmil Borchashvili, whom he has won twice this year.

Women, up to 63 kg: Gili Sharir lost and was eliminated

Gili Sharir, who managed to recover from an injury and became one of the six Israeli representatives in Tokyo, finished her way in the competition after a loss in the first battle to Australian Catherine Hacker, after suffering three penalties during the fight.

For Hacker this is the second Olympics, when in Rio 2016 she finished in ninth place.

The two have met twice so far.

Gili won in Zagreb in 2019 and lost to Cancun a year earlier.

"There can be no worse than that, and that's the only thing I take from here," Muscle said at the conclusion.

"It will take me a while to understand what was here, but I have not yet finished my path in judo."
