Tang Jiahua pointed out that he was not surprised by the outcome of the Tang Yingjie case, but he was surprised that the court spent a week listening to expert witness testimony, because ordinary citizens would not understand the slogan from an academic or historical perspective, thinking that the expert witness testimony was out of touch with citizens’ understanding. He believes that the most important thing for the court is to make a ruling based on how the defendant and the public understand the slogan and what message the defendant wishes to convey.
