Unesco is keeping France in its sights.
After the Cordouan lighthouse, the city of Nice obtained its classification on the Unesco World Heritage list on Tuesday.
A first attempt had failed in 2019 on a file highlighting the position of the city, at the foot of the Alps.
Meeting in China this summer, the United Nations organization has, it seems, been more sensitive this year to the project highlighting the history and heritage of the city linked to the development of tourism.

The history of Nice, both rooted and open, Mediterranean and Alpine, European and cosmopolitan, has produced a unique architecture and landscape, a model for a large number of other cities in the world
", welcomed the Mayor Christian Estrosi.
The news is timely for Christian Estrosi who decided to demolish the Acropolis Palace and the Nice National Theater in 2022 to create a wooded park in the city center.
A choice contested by defenders of architectural heritage.
The city has also embarked on the race to be European Capital of Culture in 2028, after a first failure in 2013.
