Beirut-Sana

The Civil Campaign in Support of Palestine and the Issues of the Nation in Lebanon renewed the call for lifting the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and a number of Western countries on Syria.

During their meeting today at the headquarters of the Syrian embassy in Beirut, in commemoration of the 101st anniversary of the Maysaloun Battle, the campaign members affirmed that Syria, the beating heart of Arabism, has throughout history carried the meanings of pride, dignity, steadfastness and heroism and embodied them in their most wonderful forms, as embodied in the great historic Maysalun battle against French colonialism, noting the meanings and connotations of the memory of the Battle of Maysaloun. Maysaloun and the martyrdom of its hero, Youssef Al-Azma, one of the pioneers of the Arab resistance against the occupation.

For his part, Syria’s Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim, in his speech during the meeting, stressed the importance of the significance presented by the battle of Maysaloun and its leader, the martyr Youssef Al-Azma, which was not equivalent to the French occupation forces, pointing out that this battle confirmed that the Syrian people adhere to the land, dignity, sovereignty and national independence.

Abdul Karim pointed out that Syria won with its legendary steadfastness in the face of international terrorism backed by Israel and the United States and by regional and Arab forces during more than ten years, inspired by the heroism of the great martyr and the martyrs who preceded him and those who came after him.
