Munich / Berlin - In Germany, infections with the corona virus are steadily increasing again after a long period of standstill.
For politicians, the question arises as to how the numbers in the pandemic should be dealt with in the future.
According to the will of many country leaders, the seven-day incidence should no longer decide on corona measures alone, the number of hospital admissions should also be included, as a Swiss epidemiologist also suggests.
RKI boss Wieler: high vaccination quota not sufficient to "keep fourth wave flat"
But now a new paper from the Robert Koch Institute is causing a stir.

that the fourth wave has begun and the seven-day incidence must remain the “leading indicator”.
The RKI actually wanted to move away from the incidence value as the sole assessment factor for the pandemic, but now there has apparently been a U-turn.

further writes, Wieler warns drastically in the paper of high incidences.
As an example, he is said to have cited the rapid increase in the corona numbers in Great Britain, which are now falling again.
It goes on to say that high vaccination rates alone are not enough to “keep the fourth wave flat”.
In plain language, this means that corona restrictions are necessary.
Secret switching conference because of alarm paper from the Robert Koch Institute
After the paper became known, there was even said to have been a secret switching conference between Chancellery chief Helge Braun and the heads of the state chancelleries.

, the country chiefs should not have shared Wieler's alarm.
They should want to continue to use the 7-day incidence as an “early warning value”, but not as a measure of all things.
The country leaders and Chancellor Angela Merkel can discuss what should be decisive in the future assessment of the pandemic earlier than expected.
The next Corona summit was brought forward to August 10th.
