For an hour, a group of promising young talents in the field of literature “short stories, poetry, music and plastic art” rotated on the pulpit of the Writers Union branch in As-Suwayda, in an experiment that was the first of its kind for the Union branch in its quest to discover, support, encourage and present talents to the public.

The talents that were carefully selected, as explained by the head of the Writers Union branch in Sweida, writer Wejdan Abu Mahmoud, are mostly unknown people and some of them did not have the opportunity to appear or support, so the branch was keen to host them, present them and bring out their talents and creativity in the literary and artistic field on its platform, which it has always stood on Senior writers and poets with experience and expertise to encourage this age group.

Young men and women, some of whom required creativity to excel in their academics this year, such as the young Omar al-Kuntar, who obtained 235 marks in the secondary education certificate in the scientific branch, where he recited two poems on flirtatious and emotional themes. Likewise, the young woman Gianna al-Taweel, who obtained 302 marks in the Basic Education Certificate, presented a sentimental poem entitled “My Love.”

The young woman, Raghad Al-Shaar, who obtained 237 marks in the scientific field, presented a short story entitled Lost Soul, along with the young woman, Dalaa Mazkour, who told a short story entitled Heartburn.

The young Khalil Al-Moaz, who has a special case in which he suffers from difficulty in pronouncing, presented a lyrical poem in spoken poetry, followed by the young Mudar Muqalled, a student in the first year of mechanical engineering, who had previously won one of the prizes at the level of Syria in the field of the short story by presenting two spoken poems that dealt with internal concerns and the repercussions of war, especially on childhood.

Then the audience, who was filled with the Union branch hall, listened to a Western musical piece by youngsters Firas and Hamza Saray El-Din on guitar and violin, to conclude the event with the opening of an exhibition of plastic art by the artist Ahlam Al-Ali, a graduate of the Fine Arts Center in the City of Culture. It included 5 small sculptures using gypsum, in addition to 22 paintings of different sizes. In oil, watercolor, charcoal, pencil, and wood colors, she explored themes drawn from the local environment, nature and women.

The participants Omar Kuntar, Mudar Makled and Raghad Al Shaar expressed their appreciation and thanks for the embrace and support of the Writers Union, considering that it represents a refuge and a home for everyone interested in literature and for giving them this opportunity to present what they have.

Among their families, Muhammad Al-Kuntar and Safaa Zain Al-Din praised the initiative of the Writers Union, taking the hand of promising pens and emerging talents from the young generation, and providing the appropriate soil and climate for the buds of creativity and giving to bloom more for them.

At the time, a member of the Writers Union, Muhammad Tarabay, described the experience as an important step that must continue due to the importance of taking care of young talents and bringing them out into the open, as an extension of the Writers Union's role in discovering talents, nurturing them, and pushing them forward.
