(CNN) -

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) approved four construction projects for the wall along the Mexican border on Tuesday.

In that regard, he highlighted the need to address safety, environmental and operational considerations.

The announcement comes less than a week after DHS terminated two border wall contracts covering approximately 30 miles.

DHS, which oversees the construction of the border wall, announced in June that it would prioritize the border barrier funds remaining from the Trump administration.

He said he will do so to address and remedy urgent life, safety and environmental issues.

During his first week in office, President Joe Biden ordered a pause in the construction of the wall and called for a review of projects and funds.

However, the four approved projects do not involve the construction of new border barriers, according to DHS.

It will try to find improvements such as the replacement of doors, restoration of energy and repair and reinforcement of a section of the wall.

Construction will take place in the Rio Grande Valley, San Diego and El Centro regions.

"These projects reflect DHS's commitment to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of the communities along the border, the people there, and our Border Patrol agents who monitor the area," said the secretary. of National Security, Alejandro Mayorkas.

"We remain focused on securing the border and keeping communities safe," he added.

Mayorkas was due to testify before the Senate National Security Committee on Tuesday.
