Green chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock has described an immediate tightening of the entry rules as absolutely necessary.

One should not repeat the mistakes of the past summer by only thinking about better protection when the travelers are already back, said Baerbock when visiting a cement works in the Swabian Alb-Danube district.

It is absolutely essential that those returning to travel who do not have a double vaccination are properly tested from now on.

Because the incidences went up again.

It has already been seen that returnees have brought infections into daycare centers and schools.

The federal government is planning a general compulsory corona test for vacationers when they return to Germany.

In the future, a negative test should always be necessary - regardless of where you are coming from and what means of transport you are using.

A general test obligation upon entry already exists for all flight passengers.

When exactly the stricter rules will apply is still open for the time being.

Previously, SPD leader Saskia Esken had spoken out in favor of a general test obligation for those returning to travel.

"I am absolutely in favor of us taking a close look at travelers," she told RTL / n-tv.

Returnees would possibly bring the Delta or other variants with them.

"That's why we have to look very carefully to protect ourselves from the big wave sloshing in over Germany again."

The number of new infections with the coronavirus has been increasing for days; after weeks in the single-digit range, the seven-day incidence in Germany is now back at 15. In some regions, for example in the Lüneburg district or in the city of Solingen, the incidence is even higher again 50
