A large fire broke out today in a forest in the Akkar district of northern Lebanon, killing a volunteer, while firefighting services are working to put out the flames.
The Lebanese National News Agency stated, "The fire resulted in the death of a volunteer from his injuries after falling, while he was helping to put out the fire in the town of Kafrtun in Akkar."
The head of the Northern Akkar Municipalities Union, Abdo Abdo, confirmed that the forests of the Qubayyat area are witnessing the largest fire, and all attempts have not resulted in extinguishing it, despite the intervention of the Lebanese army, the support of the Civil Defense and the participation of firefighting aircraft, noting that 17 citizens were rescued and that the fire is still threatening homes.
In addition, Lebanese President Michel Aoun called on the army and civil defense command to exert all efforts to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to homes and help the people.
