The city of Geretsried is sticking to the cultural autumn: and that despite the considerable additional financial expense that the corona pandemic entails.

The city council voted unanimously in favor of holding the ten-day festival in October.

Geretsried - Originally the Kulturherbst 2020 was supposed to take place.

Due to the pandemic, it has been postponed to 2021.

In the session on Tuesday, the city councils were faced with the difficult decision of whether to actually let the festival take place or to cancel it.

Organizer Günter Wagner provided facts and figures.

He also addressed the most important currently applicable conditions under which the series of events could take place.

“The tent holds 1200 spectators.

According to our calculations, just 300 people are currently allowed in, ”says Wagner.

“This calculation can fluctuate, however, because groups are allowed to sit together.” An open-air event is excluded.

In October the cold increased so much from 6 p.m. that even a closed tent had to be heated.

Personalization of tickets was a problem

Around 2800 tickets had been sold in advance.

According to Wagner, the limit of 300 people was exceeded at four events.

Therefore, the advance booking for these dates was stopped six weeks ago.

Almost 700 tickets were sold for one event.

All contracts with artists and business partners are concluded and valid, reported Wagner.

A significant problem is the personalization of seats and tickets, he said.

20 percent of the tickets were freely sold in the town hall - without the collection of personal data.

The program can be found here.

If the cultural autumn could take place under normal circumstances, the deficit amounts to an estimated 70,000 euros, according to Geretsrieder.

In the event of a refusal, it is around 262,000 euros "if all partners insist on compliance with the contracts".

If the festival is held, the estimated minus is currently 158,000 euros.

But maybe there is the possibility of funding through a federal fund.

Postponing the cultural autumn to next year is almost impossible, as most of the artists are already booked for next year, said the organizer.

“The next cultural autumn should take place in 2023.” The river festival in Wolfratshausen will take place in two years from now.

Sponsors keep their word

Even if the city councils had to swallow the expected deficit, which was more than twice as large, a cancellation of the cultural autumn was not an option. "We should go through with it," said cultural officer Hans Ketelhut (CSU). SPD city councilor Hans Hopfner agreed with him. His party friend Wolfgang Werner reminded them that they wanted to establish the Kulturherbst as a brand. For this reason, a cancellation would be "devastating". The Greens also spoke out in favor of sticking to the plans. “We'll do it,” said Prof. Detlef Ringer. In the event of a rejection by higher authorities, you are not the culprit. "We will have to live with Covid", also promoted Martina Raschke (Greens) for a yes to the cultural autumn. "That will be normal." Third Mayor Gerhard Meinl (CSU) added, that the municipality should stick to a possible compensation of the deficit with federal funds. When asked how it looks with sponsorship money, Wagner reported that the supporters continue to stand by their word. A sum of 35,000 euros has been promised.

The problem with the 700 tickets sold for an event has not yet been resolved.

“It may be possible to have two events on the same evening,” said Wagner.

The festival director did not reveal which event it was.
