The next few weeks will be a challenge for all road users in Weilheim: Due to renovation work, the B2 between the district office and the south roundabout will be completely closed from Monday.

There is another block in the city center so that the diversion works.

Weilheim

- If you have alternatives, it would be better not to drive through Weilheim in the coming weeks, at least not during peak hours.

Because of renovation work, the town hall square and thus the connection between B2 and Upper City has been taboo for vehicles for ten days.

And from Monday the even more drastic measure will be added: From August 2 to September 10, the B2 between the intersection of Mittlerer Graben and the roundabout at the southern end of the village will be completely closed.

The reason is the noise reduction of the road, combined with the barrier-free conversion of crossings as well as improvements for pedestrians and cyclists.

The diversions for the B2 block: So that the traffic can flow properly, the Münchener Straße between Schützenstraße and Mittlerem Graben will also be closed

The state building authority - which is responsible for the redevelopment - indicates diversion routes on the one hand via Pollinger Strasse, Unteren and Mittleren Graben, on the other hand via Narbonner Ring and Münchener Strasse (see map). For reasons of efficiency, the traffic lights at the corner of Mittlerer Graben and Münchener Strasse must also be “taken out of service for road traffic”, as the building authority reports. This leads to a closure of the southern Münchener Strasse, i.e. in the area between Schützenstrasse and Mittlerem Graben. These measures are necessary so that the "traffic can flow as well as possible," explains Andreas Lang, the responsible project manager at the State Building Authority, when asked by the daily newspaper. Nevertheless, pedestrians will be able to cross into the city center.

Admiral-Hipper-Straße will also be closed to through traffic during the B2 redevelopment.

According to the building authority, pedestrian traffic in the area of the blocked road sections will be “maintained as far as possible”.

And deliverers and residents should also be able to reach the shops and facilities there by motorized vehicles.

Traffic load on alternative routes: "It is constantly being improved"

According to Lang, the work on Rathausplatz has been running smoothly so far: “Of course there are restrictions”, but there has been no negative feedback. Andreas Wunder, head of the public order office in the Weilheim town hall, has not yet registered any complaints from citizens, but “suggestions” from the ranks of the city council. In any case, there is "constant improvement", for example on residential streets that are particularly affected by a lot of alternative traffic - such as on Gögerlweg: Cars should still be parked there "as a natural brake", but a few spaces should also remain free for the time of the B2 closure. so that oncoming cars can avoid each other better. An on-site visit is planned for today.

Admittedly: The next few weeks in inner-city traffic will be “chaotic”, that's a miracle. He hopes that at least Admiral-Hipper-Straße can be reopened after a week or two, at least for left-turners. “I always keep an eye on it,” promises the chief of public order. In order to be there during the B2 renovation, he even rescheduled his summer vacation.
