The members of the Dachau volunteer fire brigade association have elected a new board.
This resulted in a generation change, as the previous club leadership almost completely did not stand for election.

"A total of 106 years of executive board experience are ruled out," said the outgoing chairman Stefan Fichtl at the meeting. “Personally, I was on the board for 18 years, the last six as chairman. During this time there were a lot of special events in the private sphere, but also in the fire brigade. In particular, the erection of the maypole at Unteren Markt 2018 and the three-day celebration of the 150th birthday of the Dachau fire brigade in September 2019 were outstanding and will be remembered for a very long time, ”continued Fichtl. These two celebrations were mentioned in all speeches, including by Lord Mayor Florian Hartmann and Commander Thomas Hüller,combined with thanks to all those involved and responsible.
In addition to Fichtl, his representative Basti Fritsch (18 years on the board), treasurer Walter Ganslmaier (33 years), his deputy Günter Haberl (12 years) and secretary Klaus Hack (25 years) no longer stood for election. Basti Fritsch "will miss the cooperation with Stefan, Walter and Günter".
Suitable candidates for all positions were searched for and found in advance. In a secret ballot, Florian Reiter was elected as the new chairman of the association, Mathias Glück as his deputy. Both were elected by over 90 percent of the voting members. The election of the other board positions took place in an open vote and proceeded “almost like in North Korea”, as election supervisor Josef Hermann, chief office manager of the city of Dachau, exclaimed happily when the hands of all members who were eligible to vote soared after being asked to vote the respective cross-check did not raise a hand.
The following were elected: Fabian Schürg Secretary, Tobias Wilke (Deputy Secretary), Florian Kaltner (Treasurer), Sebastian Schmidt (Deputy Treasurer), Otto Seidenberger (Kit Manager) as well as Michael Sagstetter and Johannes Ganslmaier as shop stewards.
"It is an honor for me to have been elected CEO," said Florian Reiter during his inaugural address.
On behalf of the newly elected board of directors, he thanked the previous incumbents for their decades of outstanding commitment to the association.
"The footsteps in which the new board is following are very large, but together we will continue to run our association in a dignified environment," added Reiter.
It is gratifying that the number of active members rose from 122 in 2019 to 144 at the end of 2020, as did the number of young people from 34 to 53.Despite limited advertising measures, a number of adults joined the fire brigade in the past two years to see themselves to volunteer. dn
