"
It is unfortunately the chronicle of a fourth wave announced, which seems to us quite violent
", she indicated.
"
We are very worried,
" she added.
During the week of July 19, 1,040 cases were recorded on the island, an incidence rate of 276 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
And it is all the more alarming that the evolution is rapid, unlike previous waves.
“
In the case of previous waves, we had fairly slow climbs in Guadeloupe.
They were progressive, with rises in cases that were 10 to 20% from one week to the next.
Currently, it is multiplied by three.
It's very impressive,
”said Valérie Denux.
Only 27% of Guadeloupeans first vaccinated
The number of patients in critical care is "
slightly increasing
", but the usual lag between the increase in cases and that of hospitalizations raises fears of difficult weeks to come.
Already, the ARS notes "
an increase in visits to emergencies, calls to Samu and firefighters
".

In Guadeloupe, only 27% of people over 18 are first vaccinated.
And “
about a third of the Guadeloupe population is in long-term affection.
We have a lot of elderly people and others who have heart-like pathologies, for example.
There is also a lot of obesity
”, indicates the director of the ARS on
Franceinfo
.
If summer tourism may have played a role in the increase in cases, Valérie Benux nevertheless indicates that "
90% to 93% of people tested positive live in Guadeloupe
". It evokes in particular a weariness of the population, which relaxes the barrier gestures and in particular the wearing of the mask.
