The incidence in the UK is falling - although almost all corona measures have been ended.

England is now lifting the quarantine requirement for EU citizens.

What does that mean?

London - Great Britain is actually known as a corona hotspot with thousands of infections and a high incidence these days.

But the corona numbers have been falling for a few days.

And that although the English had declared almost all corona measures to be over on so-called Freedom Day.

Now the UK is even going one step further: The quarantine requirement for vaccinated EU citizens is to be lifted.

Kingdom in Europe:

Great Britain

Surface:

243,610 square kilometers

Resident:

66.8 million (as of 2019)

Head of Government:

Boris Johnson (Conservative Party)

Head of State:

Queen Elizabeth II

Incidence in Great Britain continues to fall: quarantine obligation for vaccinated EU citizens falls on August 2nd in England

As reported by corona-in-zahlen.de, the 7-day incidence in Great Britain is currently (as of July 28, 2021) at 337.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

On the same day of the previous week, the incidence was 489.3.

So there is a clearly downward trend in the corona numbers.

Now the British government has decided to make it easier for travelers from the EU and the USA to travel to England.

So far, travelers have had to go into quarantine for five days after arriving in the UK.

From August 2, 2021, this quarantine obligation will no longer apply to fully vaccinated citizens of the EU and the USA in England.

According to tagesschau.de, it is currently unclear whether Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will also participate.

England eases entry for vaccinated EU citizens "We're helping people reunite"

"We help people who live in the US or European countries to reunite with their families and friends in the UK," wrote UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps on Twitter.

Tests are still required for vaccinated travelers from the USA and the EU before and two days after entry.

According to tagesschau.de, countries on the so-called “Red List”, i.e. areas of high incidence, are excluded from this travel relief.

Travelers from these countries must therefore continue to go into a ten-day quarantine at their own expense.

Falling incidence in Great Britain could be deceptive: dark number of infected people much higher?

As merkur.de reports, the positive development of the incidence in Great Britain could have several reasons *.

In addition to the good weather, fewer tests carried out could also be responsible for the falling incidence.

Because for fear of having to be in quarantine and not being able to go on vacation or to work, many people simply forego the test.

The number of unreported infections could therefore be significantly higher.

The high vaccination rate could also be responsible for the falling corona numbers.

Not because people who have been vaccinated are no longer infected, but because they have fewer symptoms and infections so often go undetected.

More than 55 percent of all Britons are currently fully vaccinated.

For comparison: In Germany currently 50.2 percent of citizens have complete vaccination protection.

Incidence in Great Britain is falling - but new mutation discovered

However, the British could be concerned about the discovery of the new corona mutant B.1.621.

So far, the new virus variant has been detected in at least 16 infected people in Great Britain.

These cases are apparently all related to trips abroad - the new virus mutation was first detected in Colombia.

According to current knowledge, however, the mutation should not favor a severe course of the disease and vaccines should continue to be effective.
