Here you can find out what travelers need to consider on vacation.

Italy has been severely affected by the corona pandemic several times.

In recent weeks, however, the situation has calmed down enormously, so that easing has been made possible in all regions of the country.

Many holidaymakers therefore head south again to spend a few relaxing weeks in the sun.

However, as in other European countries *, the incidence is rising again in Italy.

You can read in our overview what you should currently consider when traveling to Italy.

Corona incidence and delta variant: the current situation in Italy

After the incidence in Italy was around 10 at the beginning of July, the trend of the last few days shows an increase in new infections again: The 7-day incidence is

now

49.5

(as of July 26) again just below the limit of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. From this number onwards, the federal government can classify a country as a risk area again. Italy itself uses a system in which the individual regions are divided into red, orange, yellow or white zones - depending on the infection rate. Currently, all regions are still classified as “white zones”, which means that there are only a few local restrictions.

The proportion of the

delta variant

in new infections in the last four weeks was 72.2 percent (source: GISAID).

Overall, according to data from John Hopkins University, 48.48 percent of the population are fully vaccinated.

These are the current entry rules for Italy

Before entering Italy, all travelers must complete the European Digital

Passenger Location Form (dPLF)

.

Among other things, data on travelers, border crossing and accommodation on vacation are requested.

One form can be filled out for each travel group.

Apart from that, the

EU Digital COVID Certificate

must be presented.

This is the digital proof of a negative corona test (PCR or rapid antigen test, maximum 48 hours old), for a complete vaccination (at least 14 days after the last vaccination dose) or a recovery from Covid-19.

It is issued or made available by the respective state authority - the relevant evidence is simply saved in it.

Nevertheless, all documents issued by EU or Schengen member states in digital or paper format - including the yellow vaccination card - are still recognized.

Italy vacation: These rules apply locally

In Italy you have to keep a

distance of one to two meters

from other people.

Mouth and nose protection

must be

worn

wherever this is not possible outdoors in public spaces

. Masks are also required in closed rooms. Children under six years of age are excluded. Temperature measurements may also be taken when entering facilities. If the temperature is too high, access may be denied and the state health authority informed. Currently, only 50 percent of the spaces on public transport are allowed to be occupied.

Anyone traveling by car in Italy should also be familiar with the relevant rules here: the number of occupants is currently limited to five people from the same household. If the occupants come from different households, the number is limited to three people and a mask is required in the car. The passenger seat must then remain vacant, while the middle seat must not be occupied by the two people in the back seat.

From August 6th, there will also be additional rules for locals and travelers to Italy.

Anyone wishing to enter the interiors of bars, restaurants or sports facilities from this day onwards must present

the “Green Pass”

.

It is used to detect a negative test that is not more than 48 hours old, a full vaccination or a recovery.

It should also serve as a prerequisite for visiting museums, cinemas, theaters or concerts.

Outdoor areas are not affected by this rule.

Holidaymakers from Germany don't have to worry about additional paperwork: the German certificate is also recognized in Italy.

You must bear this in mind when you return to Germany

Since Italy is not a corona risk area, the

digital entry

registration is not required

when returning to Germany.

In addition, there is no need for a negative corona test or proof of vaccination or recovery.

There is no quarantine requirement.

Only air travelers have to present a negative corona test at the place of departure - except for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered - otherwise they are not allowed to travel.
