August 19th will in a certain way go down in the history books of Tölz.

For this day, the Weilheim State Building Authority has announced the first groundbreaking ceremony for the Tölzer Nordspange.

Bad Tölz -

Even if it's just a symbolic act: The groundbreaking ceremony for the Tölzer Nordspange on August 19th

is from the point of view of Mayor Ingo Mehner (CSU) an important date.

"Because the local people can see: Now it really starts." Martin Herda, the department head responsible for the district in the Weilheim State Building Authority, also attaches importance to this external effect: "Two weeks ago a woman from Tölz told me in an interview that she doesn't think the north clasp will ever be built, ”he reports.

Nordspange Bad Tölz: Construction will take place for three to four years from 2022

The ceremony - Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) is also expected on the date a good five weeks before the federal election - does not mean that the excavators will roll in immediately afterwards.

According to Herda, this year there is only work to be done to clear the construction site: clearing, an ordnance investigation of the soil or the application for excavation material.

Construction will start in 2022 - for an expected three to four years.

From a purely practical point of view, as both Mehner and Herda mention, there were other milestones on the way to realizing the project: the planning approval decision in 2016 as the conclusion of a long building permit process;

and last month the funding commitment from the federal government.

“That was another big breather,” says Mehner.

The cost of the Tölzer northern bypass is estimated at EUR 47.7 million

Relief, although the cost calculation - compared to an estimate of 25.6 million euros five years ago - is now 47.7 million euros?

“As a city, we have no influence on the costs, nor do we have to pay them,” Mehner says cautiously.

Of course, it is in the interest of the taxpayer that construction is carried out as cheaply as possible.

But it is also important that the execution is “reasonable and not inadequate” in terms of traffic flow, noise protection and quality.

And it is clear: "The measure brings a huge improvement." And not only for the traffic on the Flinthöhe itself, but indirectly also for the alternative and through traffic in the city center.

Bund Naturschutz: "Nordspange will not be a solution in the long term"

Mehner admits that this does not solve all of Bad Tölz's traffic problems.

"We will only solve this if people manage to leave their cars at home on a regular basis."

Friedl Krönauer, district chairman of the Bund Naturschutz, looks skeptical about the start of construction.

“I can understand anyone who wants a solution to the traffic problem in Bad Tölz,” he says.

The local conservationists themselves are often dependent on cars.

However, he believes that the northern clasp “will not be a real solution in the medium and long term”.

It makes him “at a loss” how much area is sealed for it.

For him this is not the way to go.

“We have to move away from 'more and more', and the claim to cover every route by car is not a model for the future,” he says.

The traffic load on B472 will continue to increase according to forecasts

Herda does not deny that a turnaround is needed and underway in terms of mobility.

For him, that doesn't change anything about the need for the north clasp.

“We have to orient ourselves to the existing needs.

The traffic figures on the B472 are increasing - as everywhere in Bavaria - and the forecasts show that they will not decline in the future either. "That a" more efficient traffic management "is necessary on the Flinthöhe is" evident to everyone ".
