Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that “state” terrorism and repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory constitute a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, the provisions of international law and Security Council resolutions that emphasize respect for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

In a statement presented to the Presidency of the Security Council during today's session on the situation in the Middle East, Sabbagh explained that the series of repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, the most recent of which was last Thursday, perpetuate the policies of the occupation entity based on practicing “state” terrorism and providing continuous support to terrorist groups in Syria in violation of Another traveled to the international instruments concerned with combating terrorism, pointing out that Syria informed the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations of the details of these attacks and the serious threat they pose to the security and stability of the region.

The permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations indicated that the Israeli occupation authorities have prevented since 1967 all fact-finding missions established by the United Nations, including those established under the resolutions of the World Health Assembly, from reaching the occupied Syrian Golan to investigate the situation there and make recommendations in this regard. The occupation authorities also prevent the World Health Organization From unconditional access to the people of the occupied Golan to assess their conditions and meet their humanitarian needs, especially during the spread of the Corona epidemic, in disregard of its obligations as an occupying power.

Sabbagh explained that since August 27, 2014, the Israeli occupation authorities have continued to close the Quneitra crossing, which is the only legal crossing for the people of the occupied Syrian Golan to communicate with their homeland, Syria. Its burial of nuclear waste in a number of sites on the territory of the Syrian Golan in serious violation of international law and relevant international agreements, and which constitutes an imminent environmental threat to the region and its residents.

Sabbagh reiterated Syria's call on the international community to pressure "Israel", as the occupying power, to immediately and without delay open and operate the Quneitra crossing, which represents the artery that connects our people in the occupied Syrian Golan to their homeland and the lung from which they breathe, and its demand for the Security Council to put an end to Israel's settlement practices and its repressive measures. Sabbagh stressed Syria's condemnation in the strongest terms the recent US statements regarding the occupied Syrian Golan, which confirm that the US policy towards it comes from the Israeli perspective and to serve its aggressive and expansionist policies in the region, stressing that these statements are void and have no legal effect and that the occupied Golan is inevitably returning to the homeland by all means. guaranteed by international law.

Sabbagh expressed Syria's regret that the General Secretariat's reports continued to ignore the dangerous reality and the systematic Israeli practices and violations against our people in the occupied Golan again. Sabbagh stressed Syria's condemnation of these Israeli practices, which constitute a serious violation of the rights of the Palestinian people in the city of Jerusalem and the historical and legal status of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which imposes on the occupying power to abide by, pointing out that the continuation of these practices would not have been possible without the care and protection provided by successive US administrations and some countries Western.

Sabbagh stressed that Syria's commitment to the cause of the Palestinian people is inseparable from its commitment to our people in the occupied Golan, and it supports their right to self-determination and the establishment of its independent state on its entire national soil, with Jerusalem as its capital, and to guarantee the right of refugees to return to their homes in accordance with UN Resolution No. 194 of 1948, stressing that Any decisions, procedures, or deals that do not comply with the relevant United Nations resolutions and do not preserve the established Palestinian rights are rejected in form and content and are not viable in the first place. The countries of the world and the United Nations, including the Security Council, must put an end to the Israeli practices against the Palestinian people and enable them to obtain their legitimate historical rights And granting the State of Palestine full membership in the United Nations.
