Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stressed that the escalation of terrorist acts in Afghanistan against the background of the hasty withdrawal of foreign forces from this country and the rapid deterioration of the situation require appropriate measures.
Sputnik news agency quoted Shoigu as saying during his talks with his Tajik counterpart Shirali Mirzo today that "the joint action to neutralize the threats coming from the neighboring territory of Afghanistan comes first today... The hasty withdrawal of foreign forces from there has led to a rapid deterioration of the situation and an increase and escalation of terrorist activity."
Russia had warned that terrorist organizations would strengthen their presence in northern Afghanistan as a result of the hasty withdrawal of the United States from that country.
It is noteworthy that the US administration announced that it will complete the withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan next September, after an occupation that lasted for two decades following the September 2001 attacks.
