Irschenberg - The storm that hit Irschenberg on Monday evening revealed weaknesses in some places in the municipality.

This also applies to the Caritas children's village - with serious consequences.

The turning loop in front of the building was flooded, and water from the football field converged on the back.

So the masses made their way into the cellar, streamed into the light shafts and pushed through the windows - with dire consequences.

As the head of the children's village, Wolfgang Hodbod, reported when our newspaper asked, the entire basement with storage and therapy area was flooded.

The movement area, which is equipped with a sprung floor, is also affected.

“It is probably broken and has to go out,” Hodbod suspects.

And what it looks like with the screed underneath is uncertain.

The art studio is also affected.

What really hurts, however, is the damage in the storage rooms of the communal kitchen, which is also housed in this house.

The brown broth from outside collected in the freezers under the window, destroying the frozen food and the devices themselves. In addition, water got into the supply shaft, in which the water pipes run, among other things.

"Drying all of this water damage will be time-consuming," says Hodbod.

"And a lot of devices like our loudspeaker system will probably no longer be salvageable."

But what weighs the heaviest: There is probably no appropriate insurance to cover this damage.

“We do have insurance against water pipe damage, but not against damage caused by surface water,” says Hodbod.

“We're up on a mountain.

We didn't assume that we would need such an insurance one day. ”He estimates the damage that will probably not be covered at a good 50,000 euros.

What comforts the children's village director, however, is the great solidarity already in the stormy night.

“Many have helped.

Our supporters have also come to help clean up, ”says Hodbod.

And a local electrical company has restored the electrical system to such an extent that the communal kitchen can work again.
