With the vaccine

Moderna

available for under 18 with comorbidities, the next step for the Buenos Aires government in its immunization schedule will add it

to the

study of combination vaccine

that seeks options to cover the

deficit component 2 of Sputnik V

. The trial began with 180 volunteers on July 7 and could return results in the first ten days of August.

Buenos Aires Government sources assured that the City

already has a dose of Moderna

to use in the investigation. And beyond the fact that around 1,800,000 doses of the 3,500,000 received as a donation from the United States will be for children between 12 and 17 years of age with comorbidities, the rest could be used to complete schedules and reduce the deficit caused by

the delay in the delivery of the second component of Sputnik V.

Only in the Capital there are 741,323 people vaccinated with component 1 of the Russian immunizer.

Of these, 197,778 completed the two-dose

schedule

, so

543,545 await the assignment of a new shift.

Of these, some 150,000 have already met the

12-week

deadline

stipulated in the strategy of applying one dose to the largest number of people.

But that methodology was changed and it was decided to accelerate vaccination with second doses to add protection against the threat of the

Delta variant.

Nationwide the number grows to almost

7 million people

who received one dose and are waiting for the second.

When can the City have the combination study ready to add the Moderna vaccine as an option?

The City's vaccine combination study began July 7.

The current investigation began with applications on July 7.

That day,

180 people

who were vaccinated with Sputnik V received doses of the second component from the same laboratory, and also from

AstraZeneca and Sinopharm

.

Last week, fifteen days after the puncture, they underwent blood extraction tests to assess

whether they generated antibodies.

In that first period, no adverse effects were found among the 180 volunteers, according to official information.

Now, to add Moderna's vaccine to the study, the database will be used, which has

more than 7,000 registered.

The methodology will be followed and another 60 people who received the first component of Sputnik V will have the application of Moderna's immunizer.

Next week marks 28 days since the first volunteers received the puncture.

Unlike phase 3 tests, here

each person knows what vaccine they are giving.

Due to the deadlines, new blood draws will be carried out next week, so that during

the week of August 9, the first results

in terms of the generation of antibodies and the effectiveness of the combination could be known.

Once that happens, the City will present a report to the Nation and from that, the use of the combination of vaccines could be decided.

On Tuesday, after the meeting of the Federal Health Council (Cofesa), Minister Carla Vizzotti announced that August will be the month in which they will seek to achieve

60% of the population over 50 years vaccinated with two doses.

As

Clarín

learned

, this Wednesday

the doses of Moderna that will be added to the combination study

were already available to the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health

.

At the same time, the distribution of the batch that each jurisdiction will use to begin vaccinating

children between the ages of 12 and 17 with comorbidities

begins

.

The Capital received 60,200, according to official data.

It has not yet been defined, but it is likely that in

the City the registration will begin on Thursday

.

The mechanism will be the same as that used until now.

That is, a link will be enabled on the website www.buenosaires.gob.ar/coronavirus/vacunacion-covid-19.

This Thursday, the Argentine Society of Pediatrics (SAP) finished

defining the comorbidities that will be taken into account.

Each family must prove the condition through a

medical certificate, in

the same way that it was done when the elderly with risk factors were enrolled.

Then, once shifts are awarded, only 12-year-olds will need to be accompanied by an adult.
